Southern wedding photographer for the fleeting moments that make life worth living. This blog is the home for some of my favorite things — from weddings, engagement sessions & more personal things.

Pull up a chair and stay a while, won't you?

Today I’m blogging something a bit different! Instead of sharing a recent shoot, I will be sharing my favorite shooting locations in Winston-Salem and it will by first of many location blogs! Planning a shoot in the triad soon? This blog is a must-read!

1. Reynolda Gardens

Reynolda Gardens is absolutely my favorite portrait location in Winston-Salem! It has so much to offer, so much variety and changes with the seasons! The gardens themselves have lovely structures that can be used to incorporate into your shoots to provide diversity. And the blooms are just stunning, you can almost always find their wedding colors in the flowers there! There are little paths to explore and tons of great spots with dappled light! I specifically love the garden house with it’s white pillars and classic architecture! There is a fee of $50 to shoot at the gardens and you must fill out a shoot request form before the shoot.

However perhaps one of the reasons why I love shooting at the gardens so much is because right up the road are the most magical fields with the best light and the dreamiest tall grass! I love to shoot here all year round as the tall grass adds something special in the winter time when everything else is dead! It provides a nice softness and whimsy that I just love!

2. Tanglewood Park

While I do not shoot there a lot, I love whenever I get to shoot at Tanglewood Park! There’s so much to explore there between beautiful fields, gardens, and trees! Parking is easy and it’s such a lovely place!

3. Downtown Winston-Salem

I recently did a shoot in downtown Winston-Salem with a couple and I just LOVED it!! We started at the park at Innovation Quarter then went down to where Incendiary Brewery is. It has such interesting architecture that is so different! And then we topped it off by ending the shoot on top of a parking deck with the city skyline in the background! It was amazing! Parking is tricky but totally worth the hassle!

3. Brookberry Farms

Okay bear with me because this is a new discovery for me as of last week!! I did a shoot with a fellow photographer friend and she suggested this location. I hadn’t shot there before so I trusted her judgement, and oh my goodness I’m SO glad I did!! The coolest part? It’s literally the club house in a fancy neighborhood!! It’s absolutely STUNNING!! It has great trees, amazing light and landscaping, and it’s perfect for shoots! Parking is easy and it’s great for small kiddos!

5. Old Salem

Old Salem is definitely a Winston staple and it has lots of great structures to include in your shoot! From stairs and fences, to cute alleyways and stunning trees! It’s especially magical in the fall! Parking is usually pretty simple too!
